Building the final 200 Fortune Compass products

Its a bitter-sweet day for us. We are finishing up the last 200 Fortune Compass products that we will have for sale. Its been a great journey along the Feng Shui path and we are pleased to have so many customers that have improved their lives with Fortune Compass.

Our online store remains open until March 21st, then the Fortune Compass will no longer be sold. If you want to purchase at our special pricing, please do so this week. Our web site (with online supports and updates) will remain active thru the end of 2012.

Our concentration going forward is on the Life Compass iPhone/iPad app. Look for a new update coming soon!

Updated user documentation published

Newly updated user documentation is now online for the Fortune Compass Professional and the Tianren Tong Fortune Compass. If you've had your compass for quite a while (with older documentation) or you never have downloaded the PDF files you may find this update useful.

The documents explain with more detail how to use the various compass screens, and contain many links to various articles and sources with detailed explanations about Elements, BaZi, Lunar Calendars, Facing and Sitting directions, etc.

Tips on how to use a Fortune Compass

You bought a Fortune Compass or Life Compass iPhone app because you were curious about Feng Shui or perhaps want to take a class and learn more. Great! Sometimes its nice to have a 'guided tour' to get started with some easy ways to expand your understanding of what you can do. Here are some suggestions about how to use the various functions:

FOCUS - set your focus to whatever positive kind of energy you wish to find (success, health, etc.) and use this compass to find where you should sit in a restaurant or office for a successful business meeting, where to point your head when sleeping, and so on. When you tell the universe your intention ("find success"), use the compass (self effort) and then orient yourself to receive the energy (take action) you will find what you seek.

EIGHT - use this for a quick look at all the types of energy around (favorable as well as challenging). If you cannot easily face your preferred direction for some reason you can quickly see where another good direction for you is and use that perhaps. Or if none of your good directions are available at least face the least challenging difficult direction.

MANSIONS - stand inside a house or office building, facing toward the front door. Take a compass reading (and perhaps touch the lock icon to store the reading). Then overlay the eight mansion grid onto the floor plan of that building or house. This will show you which rooms are best for bedrooms, office, kitchen, etc.

STARS - take the reading the same way as with Eight Mansions, but this has 3 times more resolution on the compass so be quite careful to get an accurate reading. Also Flying Stars consider when the building was completed due to the changing energies over time. Again, overlay the chart on top of your floor plan. With Stars you can touch each square for a detailed explanation about what energy factors come with this room and, in many cases, get suggestions about how to cure problems and enhance strength of that area.

Best Feng Shui for people with opposite Gua numbers

One of the most common questions I get asked is also one of the most important to understand, and that is how to handle the dilemma of multiple people (family members, co-workers, etc.) that have opposite or incompatible good directions due to their Gua numbers.

When looking at the Qi around you (with the EIGHT directions compass) you can see that favorable directions are not all located all together nor are the unfavorable directions always together. There is a predominant group of usually three favorable directions together and the fourth located some distance away. This is similar to the familiar shape of the Chinese Yin Yang or Tai-Chi symbol that is the great foundation of Chinese philosophy.

So how can this help? First, you can often find one favorable direction even if not your first choice. It is always preferable to face your desk, computer or bed headboard in any positive direction rather than an unfavorable. Failing that, you can pick the 'least' unfavorable direction depending on your situation. A headboard, for example, I might choose Frustration over Illness if that was my ONLY choice. Of course there are often other creative solutions such as sleeping diagonally in your bed (if by yourself) or setting up a telephone or computer at a 45 degree angle to face a good direction.

However what if a couple has no common good directions? How to set up the bed? This is more complicated but the answer lies in choosing which person has the greatest need for good Qi in this situation. So a person with health issues would benefit most from setting the headboard up to face Health even if the other person is facing Frustration. To help compensate, the other person should have a space that is important to them (perhaps a desk, the kitchen setup or a chair) oriented for one of their best directions.

Life Compass iPhone app with Printing

With today's introduction of Apple's new iOS 4.3, printing comes to iPhone and iPad devices. Fortune Compass is pleased have released a new version of the Life Compass app that lets you print the reports from each of the four compass screens: EIGHT, FOCUS, STARS and MANSIONS.

You can use any printer supported by the iOS "AirPrint" system. Personally I bought a $9.95 program for my mac called Printopia (also available in a demo form for free!). Printopia lets any iOS device print to any of the printers my Mac is set up for. Easy to use and absolutely no problems. I recommend this if you don't have one of the few HP printers that directly supports printing from iOS.

Feng Shui For The Mind:

You probably know that the basic rules of Feng Shui start with cleanliness and an uncluttered physical environment. However, this is true for the mind as well. Recurring thoughts that trouble us - either because they are negative in nature or because they cause us to be unfocused or scattered, are not good mental Feng Shui. Indeed, the level and intensity of negative thoughts found in our internal dialogue would surprise may people.

This is a condition that must be actively engaged and blunted through active mental housekeeping. The goal of course is to get rid of those unwanted thoughts while replacing them with beneficial or positive thoughts.

Too often we dwell on the negative in our daily lives. Beneficial thoughts can be introduced into our lives via moments of reflection (that focus on friends, loved ones, and places, things or events in which we experience appreciation). Now for the twist… we can also be appreciative for things yet to happen. Future events such as time spent with friends, family, upcoming vacations and yes the holiday season!

Something new for holiday decorating to bring new energy!

Like many people, this was the year we decided to replace our old Christmas lighting with new LED lights. Saves energy, keeps the tree from drying out, and well, its nice to make changes whose Feng Shui help welcome fresh new energy into your home.

As I looked at the "blue white" color that most LED lamps emit it struck me that this new color might bring welcome changes to Feng Shui because this color has more blue and silver frequencies than the old incandescent lamps. Silver of course and white are the colors associated with element metal. This energy combination brings the calming vibrations of softness, peace and clarity that we love to associate with holiday decorations.

So consider reducing your energy bill as well as enhancing your feelings of peace and clarity by switching to LED lighting.

Flying Stars for apartments and multi-story buildings

Applying Flying Stars Feng Shui to an apartment or office, especially in a multi-story building can introduce lots of complexities. In general, one should apply the Lo Shu chart at both the macro (entire building) and micro levels (apartment unit and even each room). Multi story buildings are more complex and require incorporating the appropriate element to each floor in sequence.

An excellent reference work that explains all this very clearly is Flying Star Feng by Stephen Skinner. I highly recommend this book to everybody interested in a deeper understanding of how to improve your home environment using Flying Stars. Blessings, -steve-
